Annabelle's Challenge Israel

Meet Hadar

I’m Hadar, the Israel Coordinator for Annabelle’s Challenge, manager of the vEDS patient group in Israel, and lead of the vEDS branch within the AGAM Association.

Living with vEDS myself, I’m passionate about turning lived experience into practical support, greater awareness, and better care pathways.

With an academic background in nanomedicine and molecular biochemistry, I work to bridge research and community needs and keep our advocacy science-informed.

VEDS Support Group Israel

45 people with vascular EDS are seen in Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem.

Annabelle's Challenge has extended the support we provide to Israel members:

  • Virtual Support Group Meetings.
  • Access to the Israel private Facebook group.
  • VEDS Emergency Pack.

Concerned about vascular EDS? Please get in touch with us. You can request a video call via Zoom/Teams.

Hadassah Medical Center

Hadassah Medical Center is a premier Israeli medical organization established in 1934, operating two major university hospitals in Jerusalem (Ein Kerem and Mt. Scopus) with over 1,300 beds.

It serves over one million patients annually, offering advanced, multi-disciplinary care regardless of race or religion, while leading in medical research, innovation, and education through partnerships with the Hebrew University.

Center for Cardiogenetics

Hadassah’s cardiogenetics center brings together cardiologists, geneticists, genetic counselors, cardiothoracic surgeons, vascular specialists, neurologists, researchers, and support staff to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment.

The Center team has expertise in diseases of the heart muscle, molecular abnormalities associated with dangerous arrhythmias, diseases of the aorta and connective tissue, heart conditions that affect both the heart and the neurologic systems, abnormal lipid metabolism, and congenital diseases of the heart.

Hadassah’s Center for Cardiogenetics operates like a one-stop-shop. In a single visit, the Center team coordinates all necessary initial intervention (cardio-evaluation, genetic counseling, and genetic testing). At times, genetic results are not clear cut. They require professional integration with clinical findings, including those obtained from physical examination, imaging, and functional assessment, along with reviews of the scientific literature.

Meet The Experts

Smadar Horowitz-Cederboim
Director, Hadassah Center for Cardiogenetics and Senior Genetic Counsellor.

My professional journey is rooted in a simple yet profound belief: genetic information must empower clarity, informed decisions, and compassionate care.

With over 15 years of experience in clinical genetics, and more than 6 years dedicated specifically to hereditary cardiovascular diseases, my work is grounded in the belief that genetic insights must lead to clear and responsible clinical care.

I co-founded the Hadassah Center for Cardiogenetics in 2018, together with colleagues from the cardiology and genetics departments, including Prof. Ronen Durst, Dr. Dana Tzfat, and Dr. Eilat Shauer. The center provides multidisciplinary care for families with inherited heart diseases.

My daily practice involves collaborating closely with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, geneticists, and researchers, to carefully translate complex genetic information into clinically meaningful insights. My priority is always clarity—ensuring that genetic insights are both scientifically robust and clearly communicated to patients, families, and clinicians alike.

Prof. Ronen Durst M.D.
Prof. Ronen Durst is a senior cardiologist at the Hadassah Medical Center Heart Institute.

Prof. Durst is a graduate of the Hebrew university. He trained in cardiovascular medicine at the Hadassah Medical Center. He did his post doctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he trained in advanced cardiac imaging and participated in genetic research.

He is heading the advanced imaging program of the Hadassah Medical center as wall as the lipid clinic and runs a lab with main interests in cardiovascular genetics. He initiated the precision cardiovascular center at Hadassah.

Prof. Durst also spearheaded the establishment of a cardiovascular genetic clinic at Hadassah.
