Exploring Pregnancy & Decision-Making in Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS).

Lead Researcher
My name is Jarin and I am currently completing my Msc in Health Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University. As a part of my research, I am exploring how Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) affects decision-making around pregnancy. Your insight and experiences could make a valuable contribution to this important area of research. Thank you for considering taking part- your time and interest are truly appreciated.

Jarin is looking to recruit around 20 female adult participants with a diagnosis of EDS.

Study Details
The study is looking at Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and how it can influence decision making about pregnancy. We are interested in exploring how individuals diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome perceive and navigate risks and benefits of conceiving pregnancy and childbearing. Participants need to be female, 18 years of age or over, diagnosed with EDS, have had children in last two years or planning of conceiving/pregnancy in next 12 months.

They will be asked to participate in a semi-structured interview with the researcher which can either be online or face-to-face at MMU campus depending on their preference. The approximate time duration for the interview would be up to 1 hour.

Current evidence on this topic suggests that individuals with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome face increased reproductive health risks which includes miscarriages, preterm labour, and perinatal trauma. This study aims to explore how people diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome navigate the risks and benefits of pregnancy and childbearing. Enhancing our understanding of the challenges surrounding EDS and pregnancy can inform tailored support services and improved clinical management.
