On Sunday 8th September 2013,
Hannah Alderson from Bury donned her running shoes for the 2013 City of Salford 10k run in aid of Annabelle’s Challenge & Ehlers-Danlos Support UK.
Hannah hit the finish line in just 46 minutes and came 32nd out of 664 in the female open group and overall 80th out of 1,387 runners.
Set on a fast 10k course around Salford Quays, they have a new starting section to the race along the wide boulevard of The Quays, allowing for the field to thin out before turning left on to Broadway and heading back into MediaCityUK.
The 10km route will take me through Trafford Park, Once in Trafford Park; it flows around the area, past Manchester United FC at Old Trafford, before heading back over the Lowry Bridge and into the Salford Quays area again for the final 1km.
I am running in aid of Annabelle’s Challenge to help raise awareness and funds for Ehlers-Danlos Support UK, Annabelle Griffin is from my home town of Bury, Greater Manchester, Annabelle was just 3 years old when she was diagnosed last December with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome; a life threatening and incurable condition.
Toyota & RRG Rochdale supports Annabelle’s Challenge & Ehlers-Danlos Support UK with
Toyota Fund for a Better Tomorrow.
Ehlers-Danlos Support UK (EDS UK) was set up in 1987 to support, advise and inform those living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and help them to live a full, active and positive life. EDS is a genetic connective tissue condition that is a multi-systemic syndrome.
Earlier this year RRG Rochdale work colleagues donned their trainers and took part in the Great Manchester 10k Run including Jared Griffin, Centre Principal whose 4 year daughter has been diagnosed with the life threatening and incurable Vascular type of EDS.
RRG Rochdale also supported Annabelle’s Challenge with a Toyota GT86 ‘EDS awareness car’ to help raise the profile of EDS UK and also raised awareness of EDS within the centre.
Due to the generous donations raised through Annabelle's Challenge including a £1,450 grant from Toyota (GB) a total of £6,000 was raised which has allowed EDS UK to fund a project to train 42 new volunteer Area Contacts and their Trustees at a residential conference, so that they can provide support and help run events for EDS members all over the country.
Charities, schools and good causes across the country are receiving valuable support from the Toyota Fund for a Better Tomorrow.
The fund, set up and administered by Toyota GB, works at grassroots level, involving Toyota centres in projects that help improve the quality of life and the environment in their local communities.
Grants are available for Toyota centres and their partners in their local community. Each submission is judged on the positive impact it can have on the community and how this can be measured.
The degree of team-work involved in the activity is also considered, together with the project’s focus – such as the environment, education, well-being or road safety. In 2012, more than 50 projects received help.
